Keswick Canoe And Bushcraft (with the amazing Debs)
A few moons ago I posted on a canoe related page asking for nice places to paddle. Most of my canoeing involves dragging debris out of rivers so I fancied a change of scenery and a couple of days chill out.
There were loads of great suggestions but then i received a message from Deb Nuttall.
Deb works in conjunction with Keswick Canoe and Bushcraft and to say she knows her onions is an understatement. Needless to say, i was privileged that she reached out.
Deb had followed my efforts and wanted to give up her time to offer me a COMPLIMENTARY two day experience.
The Day Finally Comes!
Fast forward to today and I’m literally buzzin!
We tackled force 4 winds on Derwentwater, and grappled with grade 3 rapids on the Cocker!
This was a far cry from our river Freshney, and to say I was nervous was an understatement. Whilst I may paddle frequently, I’m far from an expert especially in these conditions.
As well as being incredibly exciting the trip saw me face (and conquer) some fears I had about how to handle situations when the going got tough. This came in the form of brushing up on paddle skills to learning how to read a river.
Gratitude 🙏
I would like to thank Deb and also Pete (the owner of KC&B) for their patience, knowledge, expertise, and most importantly their generosity.
I’m better for spending two days in their company
So if you find yourself wanting anything from a serene paddleboard session, to a full on overnight bushcraft experience and more, then hit them up.
Please enjoy pics of my happy head getting involved in stuff that ordinarily I would have been nervous about……
